Who we are
Southeastern Virginia Storm Chasers was conceived in 2021 by two friends who shared a mutual love of storm spotting, ameteur storm chasing and hobby forecasting. Having no known local storm chasing groups in the Hampton Roads area to network with or join, George Stewart and Sean Carter brought their dreams to fruition beginning with a Facebook group.
Along the way, many local residents joined in to discuss significant local weather events, compare notes on storm chases and share local weather photography. Local ameteur and professional weather forecasters also quickly flocked to the group, and soon the group became a popular outlet for locals to share information about important weather updates such as hurricanes and tropical storms, severe weather, winter storms and Nor'easters. Soon, the group amassed over one-thousand members from all over Southeastern Virginia and Northeast North Carolina. As the number of members grew, a few more great individuals joined and an even deeper vision for an organization was brewing.
What began as a group of weather-enthusiasts, forecasters, and hobby storm chasers coming together to network, inform and converse about storms, became an organization with a goal to help educate the public about the hazards of severe weather, promote free educational resources provided by the National Weather Service, and to ultimately begin a fund to provide relief to local residents victimized by severe weather.
We invite you to join our group and discussions on Facebook as we continue to cultivate this community. There, you will find upcoming events and educational opportunities, information about fundraisers, pre-order forms for SEVSC merchandise, and a great sense of community with a hoard of weather-loving indivudals who share the same passions.
